New Delhi: The Lucknow-based Ali Congress has sought removal of Shia cleric Kalbe Jawwad from the pulpit of the historic Asfi Masjid in the city as he, the group alleged, is speaking lies from the pulpit, and thus has lost eligibility to lead prayers.
During Juma sermon in Asfi Masjid on May 22, Ali Congress alleged in a statement, Kalbe Jawwad made baseless allegations against the organization regarding its alleged anti-Shia activities in connivance with Nadwatul Ulema and Saudi Arab Embassy in Delhi. The group said the cleric did not provide any proof to substantiate his claim.
On the other hand Ali Congress has alleged that wakf properties are being looted and encroached upon under the patronship of Kalbe Jawwad. The group also alleged that some people of Jawwad tried to disturb its program on June 13.
“Because Kalbe Jawwad has gone astray by doing wrong activities and helping looters of wakf properties, to offer prayers behind him will not be right. Ali Congress declares that either Kalbe Jawwad comes up with proofs to support his allegation against Ali Congress or stop leading Juma prayer in Asfi Masjid,” the statement reads. Otherwise, the group threatened, separate Juma Prayer will be held near Asfi Masjid.
Why Kalbe Jawwad made allegation against Ali Cong?
Jawed Murtaza, advisor to Ali Congress, told TwoCircles.net: “Our organization works for social welfare, we bring out a magazine Payame Nau wherein we criticize wrong customs and traditions crept into the Muslim society. We distribute the magazine after Juma Prayer. We are doing it since 1986. We have also been exposing lies delivered from the pulpit. This has angered some people and Shia leaders. Recently we also raised the issue of some Ulema taking money from a politician in Lok Sabha elections for endorsing support. This has further angered them. So they have come out to malign us.”
How long is the enmity between Ali Congress and Kalbe Jawwad? Jawed Murtaza said: “Earlier they kept quite but when they saw their ground is shrinking, they have come out in open. We have never named individuals in our campaigns but when allegations were made directly against us we had to answer in the same coin.”
The web site of the organization says: “Ali congress is an Islamic Organization set up to fight social inequalities and discrimination.
It endeavors:
1. To promote unity among Muslims (ittehad-bain-al-muslimeen).
2. To eradicate communalism particularly Hindu-Muslim enmity.
3. To propagate monotheism and to oppose polytheism and idolatory
This organization was initially set up in 1977 for making concerted efforts for removal of illegal ban on Azadari Processions in Lucknow imposed by the Government.
Ali Congress organized various protests in this respect and ultimately succeeded in getting the ban on Azadari Processions lifted.
